Why was this site was created?
I wanted a way to post tweets from twitter to my blogger account. I spent some time reading how to do it and it was pretty easy. I thought I'd share.
What blogging systems are supported?
Basically anything with an ATOM API. All of the major blogging systems support ATOM, even if it's not publicized (ahem, Vox, ahem). Systems currently supported include:
- Blogger (aka, Blogspot)
- LiveJournal
- Movable Type
- TypePad
- Vox
- WordPress (both hosted at wordpress.com or on another server - must have Atom Publishing Protocol enabled)
- DeadJournal
- InsaneJournal
- Dreamwidth
Currently, Twittinesis doesn't support the Blogger XML-RPC API. If you'd like another service supported (i.e., drupal, something like that), send me an email and (beg and) I'll see what I can do.
What security or privacy concerns should I have?
Unless you are using Blogger, your username and password will be stored in a database, which should be expected. I mean, the service has to authenticate somehow. I'm investigating other authentication methods (OAuth for example) but it will take some time. SSL is required to sign up with Twittinesis. Your information will not be shared with anyone. Your username and password are encrypted as they are passed across the internet. Your password is encrypted in my database. It's pretty safe.
Why are you better than other services?
- Other solutions save all of your tweets in their database. And you thought asking for a password was invasive. At least I'm not stalking you.
- I'm a hosted solution. Other services have multiple servers!!! For what? Running some kind of analytical chemistry in the background?
- I'm funnier.
- I will respond as quickly and do what I can to make it work for you (technical issues with LiveJournal notwithstanding...).
I don't believe you. You have ads on your website.
As Cage the Elephant put it, "There ain't no rest for the wicket. Money don't grow on trees. I got bills to pay I got mouths to feed. There ain't nothin' in this world for free."
That all said, I haven't made jack. This is turning more into a contribution to twitter and blog communities. And that's great. As much stuff as I leech from the in-tar-web, I feel good giving back. (And would feel even better with a fat bank account, but that isn't happening anytime soon.)
Twittinesis? For a name? Really?
Dude, I'm a programmer. I'm not in marketing. I thought it was a nice play on the words "twitter" and the "-kenesis" suffix. But what do I know.
